Lothar’s Body Shop Goes Green with PPG Waterborne Paint

July, 2010 – Middletown, NY: Lothar’s Body Shop has taken a proactive stand in protecting the environment by going “Green” with its paint refinishing system. Lothar’s Body Shop recently switched to a low-VOC PPG waterborne basecoat from a conventional solvent based system.

“Our use of waterborne basecoat for refinishing customer vehicles significantly reduces the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere,” said John Trifari, Owner. “This move further helps us do our part to improve the quality of our air and contribute to an overall healthier work environment.”

VOCs are chemical compounds commonly used in paint coatings and cleaning products. When released into the atmosphere they help create ozone and smog. When compared to a conventional solventborne basecoat, PPG Envirobase® High Performance can reduce basecoat sourced VOC emissions by up to 80%.

Waterborne basecoat is the latest coatings technology that is typically used by manufacturers to create the original color on today’s vehicles. According to PPG, the release of its waterborne color toners for use in collision centers provides the enhanced stability to match a vehicles original finish. Vehicles on production lines across the world today are being painted using waterborne systems.

“This is a major technological advancement with really no downside,” says Trifari. “Not only is the paint better ecologically, it gives better color matches and it’s faster to complete a repair when compared to the system we were using before.”

Lothar’s Body Shop is a second generation, family owned and operated business since 1962. Lothar’s is conveniently located at 20 Maltese Drive, in the retail corridor of Route 211 in Middletown.

Lothar’s works with any insurance company to repair and refinish all vehicle makes and models.
